StuG A Batterie

I bought these beauties way back when Blitzkreig was first released, almost six years ago, but never put them together after thinking they were just too many points to be effective.  With this year's Shifting Sands event announced as a Blitzkreig exclusive event, I had a good excuse to finally paint them, and I wasn't disappointed with the models or their performance.  In a themed event like this they proved very hard to kill.  I only lost the batterie in one game of five, Mark's Polish train picked off the command half-track and one of the StuGs, while an infantry platoon chased the final one to it's destruction.  I lost one other StuG to an 18/25 pounder of Russ' British infantry.  They're a large points investment, and in an open event with Soviets they probably wouldn't prove as resilient, but they performed fantastically for me and carried the list in most of my games.

I used a similar panel-shading technique on these, like the T-34 I painted last July.  This time I think they came out better, but the lighting I have doesn't want to show it.  I ran out of time before the event and 'borrowed' some crew from my other StuGs, so they might look familiar.  These were really nice  models and painted up nice and easy.

The Batterie.
Sd Kfz 253 command half-track.  Only MG in the batterie!
Had to trim the balkenkreuz to fit around the large fitting on the sloped hull.
Panel shading doesn't show for some reason.  Time to work on my photo-editing skills!

  1. Damn Rich, those look well good!

No MG though is rather surprising imo. Funny old EW.

    1. Thanks!
Funny ol' EW indeed. Was quite hilarious watching about five stands of infantry chasing my last StuG around the board for two turns until a bloody mess of an assault finally ended it. Went back and forth about six times.

  2. Are those battlefront miniatures? The stugs look really crisp almost like plastic. They aren't zvezda right?

    1. All are BF resin and metal minis. I haven't really jumped on the plastic bandwagon yet.

    2. I just bought a couple myself. Great molds. Just one question. Where are the crews from? The one with the two guys with steel helmets is really nice.

    3. Hi, both of these are from Battlefront, but I've swapped the heads on both of them. The commander is from the DAK line, and the gunner is one of the old Bailed-Out crew that used to come with each BF tank. I cut his lower half off.

  3. Great stuff! I would have loved to get in a game at Sands against you. Maybe next time (next time they do WW2 anyway).
